Tonight on 7TV – Stargate SG-1

Two great things that taste great together, Stargate and the new miniatures rules from Crooked Dice, 7TV.  I recently received my copy of the hardback rules, gadget and event cards, and tokens just last week.  7TV is a set of miniatures skirmish rules based on the popular Doctor Who Miniatures Game (DWMG).  If 7TV is anything like DWMG then it should be a lot of fun.  The rules are based around television shows from the 60s and 70s, but can easily be adapted for any era.  The Crooked Dice website describes the rules better than I could, so I will quote them below…

The plots are preposterous and the guest stars improbable. Car chases, debonair adventuring, punch-ups, explosions and open-top sports cars are all in a days work in 7TV. From the groovy mews of London town to the casino tables of Monte Carlo, flamboyant rogues and high-kicking heroines safeguard the world against madmen, despots and secret cults.

Fight across the tabletop as your favourite re-diffused heroes or villains. Flamboyant geniuses, karate kicking angels or unearthly agents sent to maintain the universal balance fight against double agents, sultry spies, mad scientists and supernatural legends. So get out from behind the sofa. Put the kettle on. And tune in to 7TV.

So I hope to develop stats and a series (campaign) outline in the near future and post them here.  Cheers.

  1. I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread.

I’m curious about the 7TV rule set and I’m interested in seeing how they adapt to things like SG-1… I’m looking for something like this that would allow, say, Ash from Medieval Dead team up with Buffy to fight xenomorphs from Alien 😛

    • Thank you for the comment. From my initial read through of the rules, they look pretty solid. If you are interested take a look at the free Doctor Who Miniatures Game (DWMG) rules. 7TV was adapted from the DWMG rules, so if you like the way those rules play, then you will most likely enjoy 7TV as well.

The nice thing about 7TV is they have a large list of archetypes and templates to draw from. So you could very easily mix genres suck as Evil Dead and Buffy.

  2. I used to play a lot of 40k a long time ago. I got out of wargaming completely but I do like board games. My friend has a copy of Dust Tactics which looks like a hybrid of the two genres (my big bar to wargames these days is tape measures… generally I find any game where I have to measure out distances is going to annoy me).

Plus I must prefer using tiles / hexes for terrain etc. So I’m more likely to play a game like Heroclix (even if it is a bit simplistic) than, say, Secrets Of The Third Reich.

The DWMG is pretty interesting but I think I would have to adapt the rules slightly to use tiles / hex terrain.

Does look like an easy thing to do for 7TV?
